A perennial cult favorite in Northern soul circles, Bettye LaVette is one of the greatest soul singers in American music history. She cut her first record at 16, her signature song Let me Down Easy, but didn't achieve wider fame until her 2005 record, I've Got My Own Hell to Raise, which features notable songwriters such as Sinead O'Conner, Lucinda Williams, Joan Armatrading, and Dolly Parton.
